Stony Mill Elementary School has a long standing tradition of helping others during the Christmas season through a project called “The Giving Tree.” Katherine Blair, our PE teacher, heads up this project each year. In the past, we have collected various items to help people who have been victims of natural disasters, poverty, and hunger. People in many places throughout the world have been touched by the generosity of our parents, students, faculty and staff. It is our hope that all of us will learn the value of showing kindness to others through a group effort. This year we collected a variety of items to be used to help in a project known as Operation Christmas Child. This project sends shoebox gifts to children all over the world. Items collected included: Small toy vehicles, like Matchbox or Hot wheels, Very small stuffed animals or dolls, Pencil sharpeners, Colored pencils, Crayola crayons, Coloring books, Flashlights with batteries, Balls – baseball size or smaller, Yoyos, Necklace or bracelet. Several hundred toys were collected during the month of December and donated to Operation Christmas Child. Stony Mill Elementary School is very proud of all our students for their act of kindness shown during the holiday season! Together we can make a difference!
